Last week we enjoyed being part of Focus/26 at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, where the latest collections from the interiors world offered plenty of inspiration.
The overriding message? Craft, character and individuality are taking centre stage. Interiors are becoming richer and more tactile, while traditional techniques, natural materials and pieces with a sense of history feel more relevant than ever.
It’s a direction that feels very close to home at Clock House Furniture.
Craft takes centre stage
Craftsmanship was one of the strongest themes at Focus/26. Hand-finished surfaces, specialist techniques and the individuality of the maker’s hand were celebrated throughout.
For us, this isn't a trend. Our furniture has always been made using traditional cabinetmaking and upholstery skills, with an emphasis on quality, detail and longevity.
Texture gets richer
Texture was everywhere, from irregular weaves and embroidery to richly figured natural materials.
Timber brings its own texture to an interior. The grain, burrs and natural variation of wood give every piece individuality – something we celebrate particularly through our veneered and marquetry furniture.
Heritage, reimagined
Traditional patterns and historical references are back, but with a lighter, more contemporary approach.
It's a philosophy we have always embraced. Pieces such as our Hornby Chair and Bobbin Collection draw inspiration from historic furniture and techniques, while adapting them for modern homes.
Warm, aged finishes
Highly polished finishes are giving way to warmer metals, aged brass and surfaces with patina and character.
We have always loved materials that become more beautiful with time. Furniture should be lived with, and the marks and patina it gathers become part of its story.
Individuality over perfection
Perhaps our favourite trend was a move away from overly coordinated interiors. The most interesting rooms mix old and new, pattern and texture, inherited pieces and contemporary design.
It’s also why bespoke furniture remains so important to us. A piece made for a particular person and place brings an individuality that simply can't be replicated.
Our takeaway from Focus/26
The interiors world seems to be moving away from the fleeting and towards craftsmanship, personality and permanence.
At Clock House, these aren't new ideas. They are principles that have shaped our furniture from the beginning.
Trends come and go. Good furniture stays.
